Male privilege is “I have a boyfriend” being the only thing that can actually stop someone from hitting on you because they respect another male-bodied person more than they respect your rejection/lack of interest.

There was actually research that was done that found that women who used an “I have a boyfriend/husband” excuse to reject unwanted sexual attention and harassment by their bosses were more likely to be left alone than those who used any other excuse (including “I’m not interested”)

Back when I was single, I had to lie. A lot. Since having my current boyfriend, it still doesn’t always work. The most alarming response I’ve had was “He doesn’t deserve you. I’d kill your boyfriend.” I was so shocked I didn’t know what to say.

This is how I fend off dudes now. For awhile I would say “I have a girlfriend” to make it clear that I wasn’t interested at all and never would be regardless of my relationship status, but that only resulted in offers to turn me straight, or them asking to “watch”
